Apparently, under new management, this restaurant excelled. A delicious choice of beers and cocktails from the bar. Then we strolled into the dining area, An inviting candle light decor is audilbly but not visually separated from the bar. Yum!! The menu options ... Great meat, and vegetarian and heaps of gluten-free options. The wine choice was fabulous. What a find. Entrees were a succulent surprise. Must have! I followed up with an Eye fillet Steak cooked to perfection and Seasonal vegetables. Our group had lots of variations of meals off the menu, and everyone was extremely happy. The staff were attentive and friendly. A testimony to a great harmonious ambience, many of the guests had children with them, and of course, they have a lovely kids menu. High chairs available. Cocktails were lovely.
Wheel chair access and appropriate toilets.
I'm not someone to review very often, but I am rather disappointed.
It's unfortunate how much this hotel has changed since the new owners. This was the place to go for anyone with gluten intolerance or coeliac disease, with the whole menu being gluten free, portions generous in size, and always a 5/5.
The monday steak night remains, though the quality and size cannot compare. Photos shows the difference between meals now, compared to previous owners. The steaks were unevenly cooked, with 2 being medium and one rare when all were asked to be medium rare. The fat on my steak cut took 1/3 of the steak, the salad can hardly be called a salad, and the chips are shared? One steak was completely missed and after enquiry came to the table 15 minutes later.
Staff were nice and friendly, and apologised for the mistake.
I'm extremely disappointed, and unfortunately will not be returning to the previously trusty, gluten free pub.
Come here about once a week for a pint and some dinner. The solid selection of Aussie ales and lagers always satisfies. The pub fair- with added flair- always hits the spot; above average. Service is excellent. Pleasant atmosphere. Tables surround the large bar island in the main area- the bar is always right nearby if you want to pop up for a drink or to order something else from the friendly staff. Overall a classic, yet modern Aussie pub experience with a flowing, open area great for groups and families.
I popped in with a few friends for just a couple of drinks over the weekend and ended up staying until late in the night! There was such a great vibe!
The food was delicious, the service was warm and friendly, with a great wine and cocktail list, and as it was nice weather, we sat in the courtyard enjoying the afternoon sunshine and then evening breeze once after sunset.
One of my friends actually said she was jealous she didn't have this pub near her in Thornbury, she said she'd be here all the time.
Lucky for me, this is MY new local, and I don't need to travel to Thornbury, or across town for a great night with friends. I'll definitely be back as a regular for sure.
Great food, great that it’s all gluten free, and great portion sizes (almost too big!)
It is a little pricey compared to most pub meals but that is expected since the food is gluten free.
Staff were friendly.
The lighting inside was a bit dull.
A must-see!. Recently, under new management. The warm earthy tones of the bar are welcoming. A great range of cocktails, beers, wines, and a welcoming smile from the staff.. It was a really pleasant start. We then entered into the well …
This is the 3rd time we have used the Vic Hotel for a gathering, but the first time for an event. The team were great meeting all our expectations in terms of delivery of services and continued communication for us to make adjustments on the go. Food was great and the bar staff friendly and considerate
Will continue to use them in the future.
Thanks Courtney, Ash, Andy and the whole team for a great experience.
I've had the pleasure of eating here twice and dragging my non gf pals along with me. …
